The Bluewater Barracudas offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Barracudas to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Training Levels

BWB training levels are divided in three major categories: Green Team; Blue Team; and Gold Team.   Both Green and Gold Teams are further divided into multiple categories.

  Level 1:            Prerequisite:  Can compete in age appropriate free and back in meets
  Practice: 2 - 3 Practices per week for 1 hour.
  Goals:
  • Starts, Turns, Breaststroke, and Butterfly
  • Understand being part of a team and respect for teammates
  • Listens to coaches and tries to make appropriate changes
  Level  2:                           Prerequisite:   Can complete 25 - 50 yards of each competitive stroke
  Practice: 3 - 4 Practices per week for 1-1.5 hours each
  Goals:
  • Train in sets of each stroke (i.e. 6 x 50 fly)
  • Accurately count and compute distances
  • Swim all sets in the correct manner
  • Understands "self-image" and ’self-talk"
  • Demonstrates championship sportsmanship
  Level 3:                         Prerequisite:  Met goals in Level 2
  Practice: 4 - 5 Practices per week for 1.5 - 2 hours each
  Goals:
  • Complete at least 3 of 5 competitive time standards
    • 100 Free - 1:10 SCY or 1:20 LCM
    • 100 Back - 1:25 SCY or 1:35 LCM
    • 100 Fly - 1:25 SCY or 1:35 LCM
    • 100 Breast - 1:35 SCY or 1:50 LCM
    • 200 IM - 2:55 SCY or 3:20 LCM
  • Understands the concept of "uncontrollables"
  • Is able to accept critiques in practice and competition
  • Is able to challenge themselves to perform in practice
  • Demonstrates the ability to balance family, school, swim & friends
  Level 4:        Prerequisite:  Met goals in Level 3 or achieved 11 & older Southeastern QT
  Practice: 5 - 6 Practices per week for 2 - 2.5 hours each
  Goals:
  • Train 20 x 100 Free on 1:20 SCY
  • Train 20 x 100 Fly or Back on 1:30 SCY
  • Train 20 x 100 Breast on 1:40 SCY
  • Understands distance/stroke, stroke rate and speed
  • Achieve age group sectional qualifying times
  • Perform basic visualization skills
  • Knows appropriate techniques to control mind and body
  • Understands proper nutrition
  • Swimmer is not influenced by negative behavior of teammates
  Level 5:                Prerequisite:  Met goals in Level 4
  Practice: 5 - 6 Practices per week for 2 - 2.5 hours each
  Goals:
  • Train 24 x 100 Free on 1:20 SCY
  • Train 4 x 400 IM on 6:00 SCY
  • Train 12 x 100 Kick on 1:50 SCY
  • Swimmer will learn to cope with peer and parent pressure
  • Understand the relationship between personal commitment & results
  • Know and explain the energy systems
  • Swim a T-30, 3 times per season with improvement
  • Visualize a race from start to finish and match actual performance
  • Uses a pre-race routine (ritual)
  • Uses Positive Self-Talk to boost self-esteem, performance & enjoyment
  Level 6:                     Prerequisite:  Senior Sectional Time Standard
  Goals:
  • Commitment to Training Schedule
  • Junior National Qualifying Times
  Level 7:                         Prerequisite:  Junior National Time Standard
  Goals:
  • Commitment to Training Schedule
  • Senior National Qualifying Times
  Level 8: Prerequisite:  Senior National Time Standard
  Goals:
  • Commitment to Training Schedule
  • Olympic Trial Qualifying times
